Clare Ann Kalkwarf (born October 13, 1949 - April 6, 2006 ) was Magistral Lady of the Sovereign Order of Malta and recipient of the Pro Merito Melitensi silver medal of the Order of Malta.

Life

Clare Kalkwarf was a founding member, vice president, manager and project coordinator of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard in Mandeni , South Africa . As a parishioner, she served for many years as a parish councilor of St. Anthony's Parish in Mandeni, Diocese of Eshowe , South Africa. She was a board member of the CATHCA (Catholic Health Care Association) in South Africa and a member of a supraregional working group of the South African AIDS Committee of the Catholic Church in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and a member of the Diocesan AIDS Committee of Eshowe.

Clare Kalkwarf was accepted into the Order of Malta as Devotional Donate on July 9, 2000 and promoted to the rank of Magistral Lady on December 15, 2002.

On the evening of April 6, 2006, Clare Kalkwarf met four thieves who had entered her home and was murdered by them. With the permission of the South African authorities and the Catholic Church, she was buried on the property of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard.

honors and awards

  • On July 9, 2000, she was awarded the Pro Merito Melitensi silver medal.
  • On June 21, 2006, she was posthumously awarded the Pro Merito Melitensi gold medal, which is reserved for people who have dedicated their lives to the principles of the Order of Malta (preservation of the faith and helping the needy).
