Bruce is a small impact crater in the Sinus Medii , an almost crater-free basalt plain in the middle of the visible half of the moon. It lies west-northwest of the irregularly shaped crater Rhaeticus and a little west of the even smaller crater Blagg . The crater is bowl-shaped and symmetrical, and both the rim and inner surface are free of noticeable impact marks. The interior generally has a higher albedo than the surrounding area, except for a strip of darker material that crosses the center from west to east. The area is formed by Maria and has only a few tiny impacts in the east.
The zero point of the selenographic coordinate system is about 35 km to the south , so that from the bottom of this crater the earth is always at the zenith . The two lunar probes Surveyor 4 and Surveyor 6 landed about 50 kilometers west of Bruce in the smooth lava plain.
