The Schwarzes Gold fountain is a fountain inaugurated in 2015 on the station forecourt in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. The subject of the sculpture is the earlier coal mining in the Lugau-Oelsnitzer coal field .
The designers
The design by the Lugau graphic designer and artist Klaus Hirsch will be implemented by the Stollberg stonemason workshop Friedhold Scheunert under the direction of the architects' office Heine und Reichold from Lichtenstein. The artist Klaus Hirsch has been concerned with the architectural and architectural heritage of his home region for years. He works on a voluntary basis as a monument conservationist and advises clients on how to handle relics from building and industrial history with care. In addition to his lithographic works, Hirsch himself created numerous works of object-related art in recent years. This includes designs for lead glazing and steles.
The fountain
The black basalt fountain was erected in 2014 in the entrance area of the future community and family park, centrally in front of the former station building. In the course of the overall redesign of the former loading station to become the Landesgartenschauugelände, the building was renovated in accordance with the preservation order and, together with its newly designed forecourt and the fountain, gives the urban area a new face. The fountain is dominated by a central sculpture - orthogonally and diagonally offset blocks symbolize stacked mining tunnels. The ends of each are sculptured, play with perspective and create the image of the "black gold" in the viewer. It symbolizes the miner's wages, but also the wealth that coal mining once brought to its owners. Crowned by a stylized miner's lamp, the sculpture is set in scene with gentle water features and lighting effects. The miner's lamp, the light , stands for the miner's constant yearning for daylight. The bubbling water symbolizes the thermal brine discovered in the mine , the future new source for the further development of the city of Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. shall be. A first start has already been made with the graduation tower built in the park and the Kneipp facilities .
