Bruno Dammer

Bruno Julius Moritz Dammer (born September 8, 1876 in Berlin , † August 28, 1957 in Wiesbaden ) was a German geologist and member of the Prussian Geological State Institute .

Life

Dammer was the youngest son of the chemist Otto Dammer . After graduating from high school in March 1896, he completed the practical training year at various mines in the Ruhr area, then did his military service until 1898 and then studied in Berlin; on June 14, 1901, he passed the mountain trainee exam and shortly afterwards joined the Association of the Royal Geological State Institute and Bergakademie Berlin as an assistant geologist . In 1903 he received his doctorate from the University of Giessen ; his dissertation is entitled "The red-lying area around Altenburg in Saxony-Altenburg".

In the almost fifty years as a geologist in the civil service, he developed a lively activity, especially in the field of cartography ; The focus of this activity was the Brandenburg Neumark , where he was appointed regional geologist in 1923, and East Prussia , where he was in charge of the geological surveys in the plains operated by the PGLA from 1934 to 1936 . In addition, he was employed as an appraiser for water developments and usable rocks and minerals; the scientific result of this field of activity was his work on "The usable minerals with the exception of ores and coal".

After the Second World War , Dammer worked at the Hessian State Office for Soil Research until he retired on April 1, 1949; however, he remained a "volunteer employee" of the state office until his death.

Bruno Dammer was married twice and had three children.
