Bruno Kleberg (born November 2, 1927 ; † May 12, 2005 ) was a German documentary filmmaker and one of the pioneers of DEFA documentary film.

Live and act

At the side of his mother, the film editor Ella Ensink , Kleberg had learned the editing trade from scratch and was employed as an editor for the first editions of the DEFA weekly newsreel Der Augenzeuge, founded in 1946 . A year later he made his first independent film: Sachsenhausen Trial , a DEFA commissioned production for Soviet agencies. This was followed by more than 50 documentaries of various lengths before he left DEFA in 1958, in which he addressed current political issues. At the end of the 1950s, he moved to the entertainment department of the German Television Broadcasting Corporation (DFF), which he played a key role in shaping.
