The Brunosee lies on the border between the cities of Castrop-Rauxel and Dortmund in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is part of the Beerenbruch nature reserve .

It was created in 1950 by subsidence.

Flora and fauna

On Brunosee and breed many water birds such as live grebes , Krick- and shoveler . At the edges it is overgrown with reeds , which are home to reed warblers and reed chambers . The lake is bordered by old forests, some of which are 110 to 190 years old.
