Brutus Island is a small island in the middle of Prince Olav Harbor on the north coast of South Georgia .
Presumably they called participants in the British Quest Expedition (1921-1922) descriptive than Saddleback Iceland ( English for Saddle Island ). Since this name was already taken for Saddle Island in the archipelago of the Southern Orkney Islands , it did not prevail. The current name for the island goes back to Harold Salvesen (1897–1970), director of the whaling company Salvesen & Co. founded by Christian Salvesen in Leith , Scotland . It was named after the coal tug Brutus , which was moored for many years not far from the whaling station in Prince Olav Harbor .
