Buckfastleigh is a municipality in the district of Teignbridge in the county of Devon , England , on the edge of Dartmoor National Park . It is known for its Buckfast Abbey , which was rebuilt in the Norman and early Gothic style in the early 20th century as the starting point for the South Devon Railway , a butterfly farm and an otter reserve.
history
The economic importance of the place was based on the grain, paper and wool mills, which were mainly driven by the River Dart with its water power. The medieval origin can still be seen in the street plan; most of the buildings date from the 18th to 20th centuries.
