Valeria Bufanu
Valeria Bufanu (married Ștefănescu ; born October 7, 1946 in Bacau ) is a former Romanian athlete who mainly competed in the hurdles and long jump .
Bufanu won the gold medal in the 100-meter run and the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles from 1967 to 1971 in uninterrupted succession at the Romanian championships in 1970 and 1971 . In 1969, she won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles . She also won the gold medal in the pentathlon in 1970 .
At the Olympic Games in 1968 she reached the semifinals over 80 m hurdles. In 1972 in Munich , this discipline was replaced by the 100-meter hurdles , in which she won the silver medal behind Annelie Ehrhardt and ahead of Karin Balzer (both GDR). In the long jump she was eliminated without a valid attempt. At the 1976 Olympic Games , she was seventh in the 100 m hurdles.
She was national champion in 1970 and 1971 in the 100-meter run , from 1967 to 1971 and 1976 over 100 m hurdles, 1969 over 400 m hurdles and 1970 in pentathlon .
