Bow (musical instrument)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bow is a part of the body of plucked and stringed instruments with a resonance body that is delimited according to a certain scheme . A distinction is made between the upper bout and the lower bout .

The Oberbug is the upper bulge of the sides - an increase in area of the ceiling and floor, the different in vibration for the emergence tone by interference , but not to the air as mainly for the handover of the fundamental vibrations of sound waves is responsible. Some guitars also have a cutaway here .

The lower bout , where the vibrations of the strings are usually transmitted to the body via the bridge of the instrument, is mainly responsible for transferring these vibrations to the air.

Between the upper and lower bout is the waist - the narrowest part of the body where the frames are closest together.
