The Toston Bridge is a steel bridge in the United States. It leads to the place Toston ( Montana ) over the Missouri River . It was built in the years 1919 / 20 by the Security Bridge Company on behalf of the Montana State Highway Commission (SHC).
The bridge is considered an excellent example of a multi-arch, riveted truss bridge. It is an example of the standard design, according to which the SHC created numerous objects between 1915 and 1941 as part of a bridge building program. It gave the farmers and ranchers who lived on the west side of the Missouri access to the train station of the Northern Pacific Railway in Toston and is therefore today a symbol of the agricultural development of the upper Missouri.
By the mid-1950s, all traffic on US Highway 10 North passed over the bridge. A second bridge was built for the new US Highway 287 in 1955. Since then, only local traffic has flowed over the Toston Bridge.
In July 2005, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places (National Register 05000720).
