Bughtrig House is a villa in the Scottish village of Leitholm in the Council Area Scottish Borders . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Monument Category A. Furthermore, it forms a category B monument ensemble together with various external buildings.

history

The villa was probably built in the late 18th century. A building is shown on a map from 1797. In the late 19th through early 20th centuries, Bughtrig House was redesigned. The entrance area was also relocated to the former basement. The design shows parallels to the nearby Marchmont House .

Bughtrig House is isolated on the eastern edge of Leitholm. The two-story villa has classicist details. It consists of a three-axis-wide main building with two-axis-wide, single-story wings. The main portal on the southeast side was once on the upper floor and was accessible via a front staircase. Today it is located in a flat porch below its former location. The masonry consists of cream-colored sandstone , which was built into a layered masonry . Colossal pilasters frame the facade. In a final eaves extending attic . Single-story wings extend from the rear.
