Leitholm is a village in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders or in the traditional county of Berwickshire . It is located around six kilometers northwest of Coldstream and ten kilometers northeast of Kelso .
history
A chapel on the site was mentioned as early as the 13th century. This suggests that Leitholm already existed at that time. During the 17th century, Kames House was built north of the village . The mansion is the birthplace of Henry Home, Lord Kames , who also wrote some of his most important writings there. The classically designed villa Bughtrig House on the eastern edge of Leitholm probably dates from the late 18th century.
On the basis of old maps it can be understood that the street village of Leitholm has not changed significantly structurally since the middle of the 19th century.
In the course of the 1971 census survey, Leitholm counted 157 inhabitants.
traffic
The B6461 is the town's main thoroughfare. It connects Leitholm in the west to the A697 leading from Oxton to Morpeth . In the east, however, the A6112 ( Grantshouse - Coldstream) can be reached within a few kilometers.
