Chełminek (German Leitholm ) is an island in the Szczecin Lagoon ( Zalew Szczeciński ), Poland . It is located at the exit of the Papenwasser ( Roztoka Odrzańska ), the confluence of the Oder ( Odra ) into the lagoon. The main shipping route runs directly to the west between the lagoon and the Szczecin port.
The island was artificially raised in the second half of the 19th century in order to prevent the silting up of the fairway leading from Szczecin to Swinoujscie . It is uninhabited and there are beacons on its northern and southern tip .
