Buhlerei is an outdated and poetic term for a love affair . In modern parlance it is understood to mean the occasionally overzealous advertisement for someone's favor . A rival is a person who, at the same time, competes with another for the love and affection of a person or for an office or a rank etc.

etymology

As Buhle were designated according to the Brothers Grimm in the dictionary of the German language a trusted man, a dear relative. It says there: “ But in the past, buhle was used, outside of the love affair, in a confidential address or written letter also among close relatives, especially since noble and princely families, almost in the sense of brother, brother-in-law, cousin, lover, or as we do today with friends or dear, dear, dear heart! address. ”Later Buhle is defined more as a gallant and lover. The Universal Encyclopedia of the Present and the Past of 1857 defines booing as “the endeavor to attract the sensual pleasure of others, especially the sexual instinct of the opposite sex, through actions, expressions, clothing etc. to irritate. "
