favor

Under favor refers to the goodwill , a friendly, gracious attitude towards another human being. A show in favor is a clear sign that you only want something good for another person. Sometimes the word favor is also used in the sense of preference .

Etymologically , the word verbal noun to treat  - Old High German : g (i) Unnan  - like art to be able , bombast to swell , thirst to parch .

Derived from “favor” are forms such as “in favor” (or “to the disadvantage”) and “ favorite ” (i.e. someone who is preferred with favors).

Opposite terms are resentment and envy .
