Build a Rocket Boys! (Eng .: "Build a rocket, boys!", abbreviation "BRB") is Elbow's 5th studio album . It was first released on March 3, 2011 on Fiction Records.
The band itself writes the title of the album with small letters and exclamation marks ( build a rocket boys! ).
Music genre
The band describes the album as "much closer to the debut album Asleep in the Back than any other material", but with more positive elements and "groovier".
History of origin

The expectations for this album were particularly high in advance, because it is the band's first album to be released almost three years after the previous album The Seldom Seen Kid , with which Elbow made the commercial breakthrough and won the Mercury Music Prize , among other things .
Concrete planning for BRB began in mid-2009. At this point, the first song ideas were already in place. Elbow consciously took time for the album, on the one hand, to deal with various projects such as B. to be able to carry out an America tour and on the other hand not to "capitalize" the newly achieved success and rather to be able to create a good album.
When deciding how to design the new album after the big breakthrough with The Seldom Seen Kid , the band faced a choice between several alternatives. Neither the route of attempting to fill the album with stadium hits only, nor the route of creating “art for art's sake” was chosen. Elbow chose to do what they saw right, as they always did. You think you have created a "different" record and are proud of the result. However, they admit elsewhere that the sound of the album is adapted to large venues.
On December 22, 2010, Garvey called the title of the album "accidentally" on a radio broadcast for the first time. Further details were given in a resulting newspaper article. The date of publication was given as March 7th 2011 and a surprise was promised for December 26th, 2010. This actually took place on the band's homepage and consisted of the announcement of a short tour with 12 major stadiums in England in March and a teaser in the form of a studio-recorded video of the first song on the album Lippy Kids on a homepage specially created for BRB . Shortly before the album was released, excerpts of all the tracks on the album were made available on the album's homepage, provided that enough Facebook members link to the album's page.
The release is staggered and began with the release of the first single Neat Little Rows , which was released on February 27, 2011. A week later, the download versions were released on March 4th. The CD version was also released in Great Britain at this time, but in many other countries it was not released until mid-April. B. also in Germany.

In addition to the Standard Edition, a Deluxe Edition was also released. The promotion edition is based on the yellow booklets of the Reclam Verlag and includes a Recla i m booklet in which the texts have been translated.

1. The Birds - 8:03 am
- “ The Birds ” is about the encounter with an unhappy love from the perspective of an 85-year-old man. For the singing in the recapitulation, as a result of the search for a “ sweet but frail ” (German: “sweet but fragile”) voice, an amateur who is a piano tuner was hired.
2. Lippy Kids - 6:06 am
- “ Lippy Kids ” (German: “Vorlaute Kinder”) was initially the working title of the album. The actual title “build a rocket boys!” Appears on one line of this song. It is thus implicitly the title track of the album. Lippy Kids had its premiere at the end of December 2010 as a live video from the studio on the album's homepage. So it was the first song on the album that was heard in public. For this reason it was the subject of the first preliminary discussions of the album. It is about children who spend their time on the street and play pranks, but are not aware of the carefree life of this phase.

- “ Neat Little Rows ” (German: “cultivated small rows”) was announced as the first single and was released on February 27, 2011. It premiered on a BBC radio show in early January 2011 and was the second song on the album to be heard in public.
5. Jesus Is a Rochdale Girl - 3:18
- " Jesus Is A Rochdale Girl " (German: "Jesus is a girl from Rochdale") was the first completed song on BRB. It is about Garvey's memories of his time as a 22-year-old, how he imagined the future of his life.
6. The Night Will Always Win - 4:24
- “ The Night Will Always Win ” (German: “The night will always win”) is a song about an old friend. They broke up in an argument, but the singer realizes that he misses and needs his old friend. The gentle, wistful music contradicts the British-humorous lyrics (I miss your stupid face, I miss your bad advice), but at the same time reinforces the longing to meet the old friend again.

Cover
As with The Seldom Seen Kid , the cover is designed by Oliver East and consists of "a very simple drawing of a figure stretching its arms towards the sky in excitement".

The New Musical Express praises Guy Garvey's ability to translate everyday things into music and gives the album 8 out of 10 points.
BRB was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2011, but could not prevail against the album by PJ Harvey Let England Shake .
Merchandising
In addition to the usual merchandising, a special form of merchandising took place in the form of a beer with the name of the album.
