A station of the Bukit Panjang LRT

The Bukit Panjang LRT is a fully automatic gondola system in Singapore , which is used for fine distribution around the Choa Chu Kang MRT station ( North-South Line ). The completely above ground track is 7.8 km long, has 13 stations and is managed by SMRT Corporation Pte Ltd operated.

The other LRT lines are Sengkang and Punggol LRT, of which they opened on January 18, 2003 and January 29, 2005, respectively.

technology

The gondola lift is a system with rubber wheels and separate guide rails. A vehicle has two axles, weighs 15.0 t, is 12.8 m long, 2.8 m wide and 3.4 m high. It is powered by 600 V direct current and the maximum speed is 55 km / h. One car has 22 seats and 83 standing places; it can be driven in double traction. It is the Bombardier CX-100 system , which is also used as SkyLine at Frankfurt am Main Airport .

The cruising speed is 25 km / h.

As the LRT passes very close to residential buildings in places, a system of anchored signaling devices ensures that the window panes on the building side become opaque (similar to frosted glass, see intelligent glass ) as soon as the wagons approach a residential building.

The average distance between the stations is 600 meters. The distance from the apartment blocks to a station is a maximum of 400 meters.

The depot is located at the former Ten Mile Junction station. On January 13, 2019, the Ten Mile Junction Station was finally closed. This is the first station to be completely closed except for the renovation period from December 10, 2010 to December 29, 2011.

route

The route consists of a linear section between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang, a loop Bukit Panjang - Segar - Bangkit - Bukit Panjang and a branch line Bukit Panjang - Ten Mile Junction. There are three different courses:

  • Course A : Choa Chu Kang - Bukit Panjang - Segar - Bangkit - Bukit Panjang - Choa Chu Kang
  • Course B : Choa Chu Kang - Bukit Panjang - Bangkit - Segar - Bukit Panjang - Choa Chu Kang
  • Course C : (discontinued) Ten Mile Junction - Bukit Panjang - Segar - Bangkit - Bukit Panjang - Ten Mile Junction (and back)

Until it was shut down on January 13, course C mostly operated only as a shuttle between Ten Mile Junction and Bukit Panjang.

history

The railway went into operation on November 6, 1999 .

In the initial phase, there were constant delays due to a software error. There were also two accidents:

  • In 2000 one train hit another. There were a few slightly injured.
  • In 2002 a shifted wheel damaged the guide rail and the power supply, so that operations had to be completely interrupted for some time.

These incidents and numerous business interruptions such as a three-time power failure on May 12, 2004 led to this system being heavily criticized, even more so than the north-east line .

Bukit Panjang LRT has been in the red since commissioning. In addition, the BPLRT had started the early closure and late opening on October 23, 2017, followed by a full closure on April 15, 2018. As of January 13, 2019, the BPLRT had curfew at 11.30 p.m. to intensify maintenance .
