Elvis - That's the Way It Is is the title of a documentary film about a series of concerts that Elvis Presley gave in Las Vegas in August 1970.
content
The content of the film is divided into two parts. In the first part, the film gives half an hour insight into the rehearsals, first in Los Angeles, then in Las Vegas. Afterwards, pieces from the first six concerts of the Las Vegas guest performance will be shown for an hour. The mood of the rehearsals seems to have been relaxed and Presley was visibly happy to be playing again. He wears normal clothes typical of the time and hairless hair.
Presley seems to be at the height of his artistic career as a live entertainer. He presents old and new songs, ranging from early rock 'n' roll hits to worn ballads . The songs are played faster than they were recorded in the studio, and Presley puts on his typical stage show with circling hips and karate interludes.
The audience is shown again and again, in which many celebrities, including Cary Grant (in his last film appearance), Sammy Davis Jr. and George Hamilton sat. The ecstatic reaction of the female audience in particular shows that Presley, despite the years in Hollywood in which he did not give concerts, had lost none of his effect on the live audience.
The film was released on November 11, 1970.
Reviews
“Documentary about the American show star Elvis Presley and his guest appearance in Las Vegas. He concentrates on the musician and singer Presley and renounces any gossip: the phenomenon can be experienced. "
Restoration and DVDs
In 2000, a revision was made by the film archivist and restorer Rick Schmidtlin. In particular, interviews with concert-goers were replaced by further test recordings. In addition, the picture quality was improved and there was digital mixing in 6-channel sound.
The restoration fell victim to the songs I Just Can't Help Believing , Sweet Caroline and the concert version of Bridge Over Troubled Water .
In 2007 a new "Special Edition" was released with two DVDs by Elvis - That's The Way It Is . DVD 1 is identical to the restored version that was released in 2001. DVD 2 contains the cinema version of Elvis - That's The Way It Is from 1970 as well as the later removed songs and outtakes as extras .
