The Bavaria Film Studios is a division of Bavaria Film GmbH and offers tourist attractions on the premises of the headquarters of Bavaria Film in Grünwalder district Geiselgasteig . An average of 350,000 visitors visit Bavaria Filmstadt every year.

Attractions

Bavaria Filmstadt offers visitors the film tour, the 4D adventure cinema and the Filmstadt studio.

Film tour

The film tour had its origins in the exhibition of sets and models from the film Das Boot . Due to the large number of visitors, the first season of the film city was opened on August 1, 1981 with regularly guided tours. Other highlights of the film tour in the 1980s were, above all, the sets from The Neverending Story and the science fiction film Enemy Mine . The film tour is still the main attraction of Bavaria Filmstadt.

Interior of the (T) spaceship Surprise

The film tour begins in groups of no more than 60 people. The tour continues as a walking tour of the company premises, which is only accessible to tourists as part of the film city tour. During the 90-minute tour, a tour guide moderates the individual stations.

Depending on the course of the tour, the following external scenes can be seen: The backdrop street "Münchener Straße" from the series Löwengrube , the Viking village and the ship from Wickie and the strong men . Interior sets and props from the films Asterix and Obelix versus Caesar , Big Game - The Hunt Begins and Das Boot can also be seen.

The tour guests are partly actively involved in the tour by shooting short scenes with them on film sets, e.g. B. in a weather studio or in front of a green screen in a virtual dragon cave. The scenes can be purchased on DVD at the end of the tour.

4D adventure cinema

Another attraction of Bavaria Filmstadt is the 4D adventure cinema , where a computer-animated film about five minutes long is shown in 3D. The rows of seats move to match the film and special effects such as wind and fog are created. The sound is created by the IOSONO Sound System, which was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology .

Filmstadt Atelier

On the occasion of 100 years of film & television in Geiselgasteig, the new "Filmstadt Atelier" opened on March 2, 2019 in the hall last used for the "Bullyversum". With the help of unique, previously unpublished archive material, the history of the media location and the company can be experienced in an interactive journey through 100 eventful years of film and television.

Bullyversum (closed)

In June 2011, the "Bullyversum" opened in the former stunt show hall. The year-round attraction offered, among other things, sets and props from the films by Michael Herbig (Bully), a ride with 3D effects, an interactive 3D film and the opportunity to replay scenes in the interior sets of (T) Raumschiff Surprise - Period 1 .

The hall was closed on November 26, 2018 and reopened as "Filmstadt Atelier" in March 2019.

Stunt show (discontinued)

The fire stunt as the highlight of the stunt show

From 1989 onwards, various stunts by stuntmen and stuntwomen were demonstrated and explained to the visitors under the direction of Mac Steinmeier and Michael Mohr . The first setting used was the outside setting of an old colliery from the television film series Rote Erde . A highlight of the stunt show was the jump from the 22 meter high winding tower. In 1996 a new exterior setting in the style of an American prison was built for the so-called "Bavaria Action Show".

From 2004 to 2010 the stunt show was housed in a 1200 m² hall that offered space for up to 500 visitors. The 45-minute show was set in front of a New York cityscape. The team had two BMW police cars specially made for Bavaria Filmstadt and a police motorcycle in the design of the New York police .

In November 2010 the stunt show was canceled.

various

  • The mascot of Bavaria Filmstadt has been "Rolli" since 2003, a figure consisting of a roll of film as a body and a camera as a head. It was previously used by the unsuccessful Bavaria Film Park .
  • A license dispute between Bavaria Film and the Buchheim Foundation meant that all sets and models from the film Das Boot were not exhibited from January to March in 2009.
  • In mid-December 2010, Wolfgang Petersen and Jürgen Prochnow came back to the site to shoot some interview scenes for the Blu-ray edition for the 30th anniversary of the film Das Boot .
