The Federation of Austrian Hunting Associations is the umbrella organization of the hunting associations in Austria . history

At the end of the 19th century, larger communities of like-minded hunters and hunters came together to protect the hunt . They were carriers of the idea of hunting protection and grazing justice and formed groups and associations. For example, a Lower Austrian hunting protection association and the "Free Association for the Protection of Pastures " were formed.

Soon after the turn of the 19th century, smaller groups interested in hunting began to come together. One of the oldest hunting clubs in Austria was probably the “Wiener Jagdverein”. In the 1920s there was a larger number of hunting clubs and the desire arose to be able to perform better through a merger. In 1925, at the invitation of the Vienna West Hunting and Nature Conservation Association and the St. Hubertus ”from Hietzing , a meeting with the chairmen or delegates of several Viennese hunting clubs for the purpose of creating an umbrella organization. In September 1928 the federation was founded - initially under the name “Association of Hunting Associations of Vienna and Lower Austria” . In 1930 the name was changed to “Association of Austrian Hunting Associations” and in 1932 to “Association of Austrian Hunting Associations”. After Austria was annexed to the German Reich , the dissolution of all hunting clubs and their conversion into the “German Hunters' Association” was decreed by law, and thus the umbrella organization became obsolete.

Since the members of the individual hunting clubs remained in touch, the clubs could be re-established immediately after the Second World War . In 1948 the association changed its name to the current name “Bund Österreichischer Jagdvereinigungen” .
