Association of German Pioneers

The Bund deutscher Pioniere eV (BdPi) is a free association of active and former pioneers , pioneer fellowships, pioneer associations and traditional associations in Germany.

history

The Bund Deutscher Pioneers was founded on July 25, 1925 in Berlin as the Waffenring Deutscher Pioneers (WdPi). It was banned by Adolf Hitler in 1938 and dissolved on June 19, 1938.

In August 1951 he was on the initiative of the General of the Pioneers a. D. Otto Tiemann revived. In 2002 the name was changed to Bund deutscher Pioneers . The first federal meeting of German pioneers took place on August 2-4, 1952 in Holzminden .

membership

Members are or can be:

  • Members of former or active German pioneer troops
  • Pioneer fellowships

  • Individuals, associations, clubs, companies
  • other pioneer associations

aims

The association states that it is committed to the free, democratic rule of law and that it observes the Bundeswehr's traditional decree in its maintenance of tradition . He pursues non-partisan and charitable goals.

The primary goals set out in its statutes are:

  • to promote the corps spirit among the pioneers
  • to promote the active engineering units of the Bundeswehr and the reservist work
  • to stand up for tradition and comradeship even among the generations
  • to promote international understanding.

controversy

The association experienced some criticism in the late 2000s, as former SS soldiers were also members or even honorary members. The then Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung gave up his honorary membership in the BdPi in April 2009.

Awards

The BdPi awards three prizes every year:

  • The General-von-Mudra-Preis, named after the former General Bruno von Mudra , has been awarded since 1983 to the best of the year in officer training in the pioneer group.
  • The Prinz Eugen Prize, named after Eugen von Savoyen , is awarded to the best in the construction technician course at the Army Technical College for Construction Technology.
  • The Colonel a. The D. Daase Prize is awarded to the best of the year in sergeant training for Air Force pioneers.
