Association of Franconian Artists

The Association of Franconian Artists is an association based in Presseck ( Kulmbach district ).

Club life

Every summer, the association organizes the large annual exhibition of contemporary art on the Plassenburg above Kulmbach. The exhibition and studio space at this time is the so-called Great Court Room on the second floor of the north wing. An artist symposium has been held annually at the Plassenburg since 2010.

Club history

The federal government was founded in 1929 by the "Feierabend-Gesellschaft". Johannes Seiler was the founder of the federal government, Eduard Aigner , Fritz Burkhardt and Reinhold Pallas were among the oldest members and had been on the board for decades. They were followed by Heinrich Rettner, who played a key role in shaping the artistic face of the exhibition, and Conrad Völkel, Philipp Ziegler, Ernst Pflaumer , Anton Greiner and Sven Bjerregaard and Georg Schmidt as treasurers. Ferdinand Dunkel chaired the chair from 1985 to 2003 with Hans Wuttig as deputy since 1985, who was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit in 2011. Günther Wolfrum has been treasurer since 1985.

The association currently has 71 members. Artists who have participated in the exhibitions at the Plassenburg three times can apply for membership.
