Eduard Aigner

Eduard Aigner (born August 6, 1903 in Neuhaus ; † December 22, 1978 in Munich ) was a German painter in the Munich academic tradition .

Life

After secondary school in Eichstätt , where he was in contact with Fritz Burkhardt, the Munich painter of the New Objectivity, who was three years older and later , he attended the arts and crafts school in Nuremberg and from 1923 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . He also settled in Munich. Study visits to Paris , Italy and Spain followed . In 1929 Aigner was one of the founding fathers of the Association of Franconian Artists on the Plassenburg in Kulmbach. In 1932 he received the Albrecht Dürer Prize from the city of Nuremberg . In 1943 he took part in the exhibition Young Art in the German Reich in Vienna organized by Reichsleiter Baldur von Schirach with two works .

After the Third Reich , the group " Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft (MKG)" was formed as early as 1945 under the chairmanship of Eduard Aigner and Carl Theodor Protzen, which wanted to be open to modern, experimental directions despite all ties to the pre-war tradition. In practice, however, one remained conservative, that is, both thematically and stylistically, the tradition of the Munich School was adhered to. The MKG exhibitions were very popular. After losing a lawsuit in 1950 in the dispute over the name of the group, the "Group Aigner-Protzen" appeared in the major art exhibition held annually since 1949 in the Haus der Kunst under the name "Neue MKG". Aigner had been based in Wasserburg am Inn since 1961 .

Appreciation

Aigner captured landscapes , people and animals in oil paintings , in watercolors and as lithographs . He also painted still lifes . In terms of subject matter and technique, he oriented himself towards the older Munich painting culture of the 19th century , an academic painting with impasto and large-scale applications of paint; Instead of the dark tones of traditional Munich painting, however, he preferred light colors and thus created "pictures of Arcadian serenity" (Eichler). Works owned by the Städtische Galerie in Munich, among others. In the Palatinate State Library there is an Aigner folder from the Hans-Georg Geißler archive containing biographical and other material under number 200 a .
