Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology

The Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology OPET ( French Office fédéral de la formation professionnelle et de la technologie OFFT , Italian Ufficio federale della formazione professionale e della tecnologia UFFT ) was a federal authority of the Swiss Confederation . It was the federal competence center for questions of vocational training, universities of applied sciences and innovation. The OPET was part of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (FDEA) .

On December 20, 2012 the OPET was merged with the State Secretariat for Education and Research to form the new State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

The BBT was u. a. responsible for the implementation of the Vocational Training Act and the University of Applied Sciences Act. Together with the cantons and the organizations of the world of work, OPET advocates high quality in vocational training. The OPET also coordinated the universities of applied sciences and created the basis for innovation policy.
