Sulejman Mato

Sulejman Halil Mato (born March 1, 1941 in Fterra ) is an Albanian writer.

Life

Mato was born in Fterra in the Saranda district in 1941 . From 1964 he graduated from the Philological Faculty, Albanian Literature and Language Branch at the University of Tirana . From 1965 to 1967 he worked as a teacher in various schools in the city of Berat . From 1967 to 1973, Mato was editor of the most important cultural magazine at the time, Nëntori (at that time organ of the Albanian Association of Artists and Writers). From 1973 to 1976 he worked as a librettist at the Volkstheater. Afterwards he was instructed by the ruling communists to become a teacher again, this time at a vocational high school; from 1985 to 1991 he worked again as a librettist at the Albanian State Opera and the State Ensemble. After the political change he became director of the book distribution agency, from 1997 to 2001 he was editor-in-chief of the newspaper Tirana Bashkiake . Today Mato lives as a freelance writer.
