The Federal Expert Group Maintenance - Safety for Sports and Play Equipment e. V. (BFGW) has been active as a non-profit association in the field of safety for sports and play equipment in Germany since it was founded in 1984. The association's tasks include regular seminars and training courses for members in accordance with legal requirements ( DIN / EN standards , product safety law ) and the guidelines of the GUV accident insurance funds. For example, operators of a sports facility are obliged to have their facility inspected annually by a certified specialist company and to eliminate the defects found (see e.g. GUV SI 8044 and others).

Since 1990 the association has been a member of the International Association of Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) .

Members of the association are 12 legally independent companies spread across Germany, which are responsible and certified for the safety and equipment of sports facilities.

activity

The BFGW is publicly committed to the regular maintenance and care of sports and play equipment, in particular those that are exposed to strong weather and / or heavy use. To achieve this goal, the association runs advanced training seminars for sports equipment technicians. In addition, the BFGW certifies member companies in cooperation with TÜV Thuringia .

The association trains technicians in the context of training courses and certifies technicians after the relevant evidence has been provided. Safety-relevant improvements to the safety of play and sports equipment are developed in specialist committees. The association also acts as an advisor to local administrations, cities and municipalities, associations, schools and clubs.

BFGW honorary award

The BFGW honorary award is the only award that recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of safety at play and sports facilities. The prize was launched in 2011 and is always awarded at the beginning of a calendar year retrospectively for the previous year. Natural persons, municipal institutions or companies who have distinguished themselves in a special way are eligible as award winners. In 2011 the “Goals must fall, but not fall” campaign by sports equipment manufacturer Schäpers GmbH was honored with the award. The winner in 2012 was Cube Sports GmbH, which convinced the jury with a newly developed connector system for sports equipment. In the following year, the city of Hilden was awarded the BFGW Prize of Honor. In 2013, the city of Hilden established an exemplary safety management system as part of the renovation of public sports facilities. In 2014, the Sports Office of the City of Frankfurt am Main received the prize for their campaign to block all unsecured football goals on the city's sports facilities and to retrofit them with anti-tip devices at short notice.
