tasks

The Federal Press Service , which was founded in 1921, sees itself as a service company that functions as an information hub between the population, the media and the federal government. A core task of the BPD is to inform the public about the work of the federal government. Measures, laws, strategies and the background to politics are reported on the website of the Federal Chancellery as well as in print products and press releases. Toll-free hotlines are available for general inquiries or special topics such as Europe.

Another core task of the Federal Press Service is to inform the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Government about the domestic and foreign news situation. The BPD performs this task with the daily creation of printed and electronic press reviews as well as oral reports.

The Federal Press Service is also responsible for the support of Austrian and international mass media and, for example, carries out the accreditation of journalists and press support during state visits .
