It is made up of 160 organizations that offer outpatient advice and support for female victims of violence. The umbrella organization conducts public relations work and initiates campaigns, conducts seminars and conferences, and develops information materials on the subject of violence against women .

history

The Federal Association of Women's Advice Centers and Women's Emergency Calls - Women Against Violence (bff) was founded in September 2004 as a merger of the Federal Association of Autonomous Women's Emergency Calls (BaF eV) and the Federal Association of Women's Advice Centers (BVF eV) .

The Federal Association of Autonomous Women's Emergency Calls (BAF eV), founded in 2002, was preceded by the Federal Networking Center for Emergency Calls under the auspices of the Women's Emergency Call in Kiel, in order to improve nationwide cooperation. Before that, most of the approximately 120 women's emergency calls were already networked locally with other institutions in committees and working groups. In some federal states there were state working groups for women's emergency calls. In addition, nationwide emergency meetings were held annually. From September 1999 to August 2002 the Federal Ministry for Families, Seniors, Women and Youth took over its start-up financing. BAF eV was financed mainly by the same Federal Ministry for a further two years until October 31, 2004.

The Federal Association of Women's Advice Centers (BVF eV) was founded in November 2003. Most recently, 110 women's advice centers from 14 federal states belonged to it.

Since the merger of the two associations in the bff, the work of these predecessor associations BaF eV and BVF eV has been suspended, but will be continued in the bff .

goals and tasks

The association is committed to combating violence against women and its effects. He works in the fields of networking, public relations, advanced training, committee work and quality development and assurance. It also represents the interests of its member institutions. These fight violence against women in all forms (sexual violence, violence by (ex) partners, psychological violence, stalking, physical violence, structural violence, economic violence). They offer those affected psychosocial support and are also involved in violence prevention.

In position papers, the bff makes public statements on current debates and reports, often dealing with legal aspects.

The bff is a member of the Europe-wide network Women Against Violence Europe (WAVE), which includes 400 non-governmental organizations that work on violence against women and girls.

In Technical Committee II of the State Coordination Office for the Implementation of the UN Disability Rights Convention, the bff deals with the issue of protecting women and girls with disabilities from violence.

organization structure

The most important body of the bff is the association council. It is made up of representatives from the individual federal states - usually one representative for the women's emergency calls and one representative for the women's counseling centers. There are always at least two women on the board of the association, who are elected every three years by the general assembly. Seven employees work in the Berlin office.

support

The TV cook Sarah Wiener is the patron of the bff. Together with Hella von Sinnen , she took part in the poster campaign The correct standpoint against violence . Other prominent supporters include the publisher Barbara Budrich , Federal Constitutional Judge Susanne Baer and the actor Martin Baden .
