('BIEF), based in Bad Honnef, is a nationwide interest group for companies in interior construction , element construction and prefabricated construction . Under the umbrella of the Main Association of the German Timber Industry ( HDH ), the association, which was founded in 2006, supports its around 50 member companies in economic, technical, professional, social and collective bargaining issues.

Purpose and tasks

(from the statutes, § 2): The purpose of the federal association is to safeguard, promote and represent the economic, collective bargaining, socio-political and technical issues of companies involved in interior construction, element and prefabricated construction operating in Germany. Companies in the field of interior construction, element and prefabricated construction are companies that use wood as a material or instead of or in connection with wood with processing other materials complete prefabricated buildings or halls, other structures or parts thereof or components (including interior construction, doors, windows , Stairs as well as ceilings, floors, walls and their linings) in the factory or workshop and / or manufacture structural systems or parts thereof from prefabricated components and / or assemble the components.

  • The federal association itself does not pursue any economic interests and sees itself as an intermediary between manufacturers, customers and interested parties.
  • As part of its general objectives, the Federal Association takes on the following tasks in particular:
  • Promotion of the prefabricated concept in science, politics, public administration as well as press and public relations;
  • Development and promotion of training and further education joint further development and dissemination of the technical principles of prefabricated construction, interior construction and assembly;
  • Informing the members about all pre-fab, expansion and assembly-related issues

Education and training in assembly

BIEF is involved in the training and further education of suitable specialists, because assembly is a central field of activity in the woodworking and building trade today. The number of assembly companies, especially in the wood industry, has risen sharply and assembly has become more independent. In the meantime, BIEF has also launched the apprenticeship as a wood mechanic specializing in the assembly of interior fittings and construction elements. Complete services are increasingly being provided, which are breaking down traditional trade boundaries. Despite this need, there has not yet been a training regulation. BIEF has been holding talks with the ministries involved and the social partners for some time. This is what the association stands for in the criticism of traditional trades . The further training of management staff is also an issue for BIEF; A multi-day “construction manager” course with a subsequent final examination by a recognized body is currently being planned.

Personnel

On October 9th, Burkhard Okel was elected as the new chairman of BIEF at the general meeting in Rust. He succeeds Dirk-Uwe Klaas, who has held the position temporarily as Chief Executive Officer of the HDH since 2006. Okel, whose company of the same name in Diemelstadt is also a member of the RAL-Gütegemeinschaft Trockenbau eV, is in close contact with numerous competitors and is involved in various ways for the interests of the industry. The deputy chairmen are Gerhard Gruber and Peter Stelly. On October 19, 2016, Manuel Grün was unanimously elected as the new chairman of BIEF at the general meeting in Winnenden . At the beginning of 2017, BIEF went online with a new website and also presented its modernized association logo.

Media partnership

The federal association maintains a media partnership with the specialist magazine Exakt . This means that an object, a company or an activity from the association as well as short news are presented in each issue.
