Diemelstadt was created on November 1, 1970 in the course of the regional reform in Hesse through the voluntary merger of the city of Rhoden and the municipality of Wrexen. On December 31, 1970, the communities of Ammenhausen, Dehausen, Helmighausen, Neudorf and Wethen were added on a voluntary basis. Hesperinghausen and Orpethal followed on December 31, 1971. After a referendum, the name of the municipality was set as “Diemelstadt” and is thus a new creation without origin, it refers to the Diemel river . The town charter comes from the town of Rhoden.
