Helmighausen is a district of the city of Diemelstadt in the northern Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .
Geographical location
Helmighausen is located in the west of Diemelstadt in the so-called Red Land on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge nature park . State road 3198 runs through the village .
history
The village probably originated around 500 AD. The hard-to-work soil, which indicates the color and which was formed by the weathering of red sandstones from the lower red sandstone, gave the region the name “Red Land” . The townscape is characterized by well-preserved half-timbered houses. The church, built around 1300, is worth seeing.
The Helmighausen moated castle was demolished around 1700 and replaced by an estate with a manor house that still stands today .
On 31 December 1970 Helmighausen was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis in the city Diemelstadt incorporated .
