Rudolf Rocholl

Rudolf Rocholl (born September 27, 1822 in Rhoden , † November 26, 1905 in Düsseldorf ) was a Lutheran theologian and philosopher of history .

Rocholl is the father of the battle and landscape painter Theodor Rocholl and the grandfather of the archivist and historian Hans Schubert .

Rocholl studied in Jena and Berlin, was a private tutor in Vienna and then became a pastor. He left his position in 1861 after a dispute with the church leadership and was hired by Count August von Grote for his manor chapel in Breese for several years. In 1867 he became superintendent in Göttingen . He rejected liberal currents in the church, a union with the Reformed ( Prussian Union ), the influence of the state on the church and the introduction of civil marriage . That is why he was relieved of his office in 1878 and left the Hanover regional church . He turned to the Old Lutherans and led the congregation in Breslau until 1891 . After that he lived in Düsseldorf. Rudolf Rocholl is a representative of the Protestant school of thought of the 19th century, which is known as denominationalism .
