The Federal Association of Medical Technology e. V. (BVMed) based in Berlin claims to represent the interests of industrial and trading companies in the medical device and medical technology sector. Members are over 230 German and international companies in this sector with a total of over 190,000 employees.

Association purpose

The association promotes and represents the trade association the interests of its members outwardly from politicians and the public. It offers its members in working groups and project groups platforms for dialogue and exchange. In addition to providing information and public relations work, BVMed is involved in drafting laws , guidelines and standards for and for medical devices.

Members

Companies that are or want to become members must, in accordance with the articles of association

  • are based in Germany,
  • be legally independent and entered in a commercial register in Germany or a corresponding register / directory of an EU member state,
  • Medical devices manufactured and / or under his name them on the market ,
  • be able to prove that production complies with the applicable laws and guidelines ( certification required),
  • provide evidence of contributory sales of at least three million euros per year and
  • declare their willingness to participate in internal association statistics .

Associations with which BVMed works

BVMed is affiliated with the Federation of German Industries (BDI) through membership of the Association of the Chemical Industry (VCI) , and also directly with the European umbrella organization Eucomed , based in Brussels . The largest national sister associations in Europe are SNITEM (France), ABHI (Great Britain) and Assobiomedica (Italy). The US association with which BVMed also works is called AdvaMed.

At the national level, BVMed cooperates with associations BAH, BPI, Spectaris, VDDI, VDGH and ZVEI ( working group 'MPG' of the industrial associations ). All associations jointly publish the flyer "The meaning of the CE marking on medical devices" .

history

In 1901, some manufacturers in Berlin founded the “Association of German Association of Bandage Fabric Factories”. In 1924 the association changed its name to “Association of German Association Manufacturers”. V. “With the beginning of the Second World War , the business tore down. In 1950 the re-establishment took place under the name "Association of the German Association Material Industry". (Verba), whereby in the 1970s the area of ​​representation was expanded to include classic nursing articles (aids). In 1979 the association was given the name "Federal Association of Dressings and Medical Aids" (BVM), which was changed in 1984 to "Federal Association of Dressings and Medical Products". In 1996, due to a change in the corporation in the statutes , it was named Bundesfachverband Medizinprodukteindustrie e. V., BVMed for short. Since 2000, due to a restructuring, the abbreviation for "Federal Association of Medical Technology" has been used. BVMed has been based in Berlin (previously Wiesbaden ) since summer 2001 . In June 2002 the association presented its new image with the slogan : "Shaping health".
