The Bungenstock Plateau is an oceanic plateau in the Lasarew Sea off the Princess Astrid Coast of Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica .

The plateau was named in 1999 at the suggestion of the German geoscientist Hans Werner Schenke from the Alfred Wegener Institute . It is named after the German geologist and geophysicist Herwald Bungenstock (1928–1998), who played a key role in the resumption of marine and polar research in Germany after the Second World War .
