Bunker Fridolin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fridolin Bunker is a bunker facility in the northern municipality of Freising . It lies between the districts of Untergartelshausen and Pettenbrunn .

The facility was built between January 1961 and 1962. In early 1965 she was put into military service by the US Air Force . At the end of 1965, the Bundeswehr Air Force Association took over the bunker. The bunker housed a Control and Reporting Center (CRC). On April 1, 2004, he was demilitarized. Today it is owned by the Freising municipal utilities, which are trying to market the bunker for civil use.

To the northwest of the bunker there was an air defense position equipped with MIM-23 HAWK . Not far from the two systems, above the village of Haindlfing, is the Haindlfing radar station, which is still in operation, with a GM 406F (from 1972 to 2014 Medium Power Radar ) for air monitoring . Since the Fridolin bunker was shut down, this has been subordinate to operational command area 2 .
