The Bunte Block , originally the Colorful Quarter , is a residential area in Kaiserslautern , with the addresses Königstrasse 54–82 (even numbers), 71–85 (odd numbers), Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse 39, 41, 43, 45, Friedrich-Engels -Straße 1, Friedrich-Karl-Straße 2, Hartmannstraße 1, 3, 5, 19, 22, 24, Orffstraße 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, St. Marien-Platz 13 and Werderstraße 1–4 . The plant stands as urban and architecturally outstanding example of the "strong geometric style characterized the 1920s" under monument protection .

The complex on both sides of Königstrasse west of St. Mary's Church, which also extends into some side streets, was built between 1919 and 1925 on behalf of the municipal housing association (today: “Gemeinnützige Bau AG”) to alleviate the housing shortage. Existing buildings prevented the creation of a closed system. The town planning director Hermann Hussong was in charge , but the architects Eduard Brill , Alois Loch , Michael Miller and Philipp Spelger were also involved in the planning and construction.

The mostly three-, sometimes two-storey plastered buildings are grouped together to form elongated lines, each with a shared roof; the corner buildings are elevated, the facades are structured by dwelling houses , entrance risalites or bay windows. The design language is expressionistically inspired (e.g. stepped gables, raised windows, etc.). The houses were originally painted in strong colors, hence the popular name "Bunter Block". The buildings damaged in the Second World War were repaired by 1950, a comprehensive restoration of the houses with redesigning the apartments and redevelopment of the residential area was completed in 2005.
