The castle Affelstetten , and Old Castle called, is the ruin of a Spur castle on a 650 m above sea level. NN high rock 500 meters southwest of the former hamlet Affelstetten near Veringendorf , a district of Veringenstadt in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg .
history
The castle was probably built during the 13th century by the local nobility living in Affelstetten; Hermann von Affelstetten was first mentioned by them in 1308 as a witness in a document for Hugo von Werdenberg and Eberhard von Nellenburg . It is also not known to which class the lords of Affelstetten belonged, in 1495 the Affelstetteners are referred to as free , but in older literature they are listed as servants of the lords of Jungingen .
In the following years, members of the Affelstetten family were mentioned several times, among others in the service of the city of Pisa . In 1367 Affelstetten was sold by Ursula von Jungnau-Hohenfels to the Eberhard and Johannes von Reischach brothers, and in 1418 the Counts of Werdenberg bought the castle. It is not known when and for what reason the castle was abandoned.
From the former small castle on a rock tower with a keep and the area of 9 by 9 meters, small remains of walls and the neck moat are still preserved.
