The castle Angermünde ( Latvian Anger Minim pils ) was a bishop castle of the diocese Kurland . The vassal castle was on the left bank near the confluence of the Rinda and the Irbe zur Stende. The foundations and small wall fragments have been preserved to this day. The ruins can be reached from Ventspils- Ances road .
history
It is believed that the castle was built between 1242 and 1249 under Dietrich von Grüningen . When Courland was divided , Angermünde came under the control of the Kurland bishops residing at Pilten Castle, whose stay in Angermünde is documented for 1423 and 1540. A feudal letter from Herrmann Brüggeney to Moritz Blomberg has been preserved for 1540 .
In the 16th century, the Angermünde office together with the villages of Groß-Irben and Pissen were pledged to the noble family of Behr . In 1562 Duke Magnus sold Angermünde to Johann von Behr, and the castle then belonged to his Poopen estate. The certificate speaks of "Our Heuszlein vnd Ampt Angermunde".
During the Great Northern War , Angermünde Castle was destroyed by Swedish soldiers. In 1720 it was abandoned.
description
The foundations of a three-meter-thick stone wall take up a square size of 40 meters, with a western wall of 10.5 to 10.5 meters and a square residential tower with a cellar underneath. It is believed that gates led to a lift bridge to the east.
