Blumenau Castle

The castle Blumenau is an Outbound lowland castle near the hamlet Kohlhauser, a modern district of Wangen in the district of Ravensburg in Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

On what is now a plowed hill around 250 meters north of the hamlet of Kohlhauser, north-northeast of Wangen im Allgäu, there is a five-meter-high, rounded hill on which the castle stood.

history

It is not certain who the builders of the complex were, the bailiffs of Summerau are suspected as builders, the castle could have been a predecessor of Leupolz Castle , or it could have been built as a neighboring residence by the St. Gallen ministerials from Prassberg .

Only a few historical mentions of the castle are known, the name Blumenau appears for the first time in 1394, but no castle or an associated nobility is mentioned. The castle itself was first mentioned before 1419, but it was already destroyed by that time: the Guot to the Blumnow, daz Burgstal and Zehendstadel with all their accessories . It was a St. Gallen fief of Heinrich and Rudolf Gremlich and of her uncle Hildebrand Sürg. They sold their fiefdom in 1419 to Andreas Wer (k) meister, a servant of the St. Gallen monastery, who was then enfeoffed by the abbot of the monastery with the castle stables and the Hoff zum Stadler zu Blumenau. In 1433 Ytal Humpis then bought the Burgstall, the building yard with the Hof zu Stadel underneath, as a fiefdom Pluomnow from the monastery for 221 pounds pfennigs from Agatha W.in and her husband Hans Lind from Constance .

It is not known when the castle was demolished. There is a memorial stone on the castle hill.
