The castle Diessenberg is an Outbound medieval rock castle from the 12th century and is located in the former Swiss municipality Aeschlen bei Oberdiessbach , now part of the municipality of Oberdiessbach , in the Canton of Bern .
Location and description
The castle was built on a steep rock in the Falkenfluh . Today the remains of the neck ditch and the castle hill can still be seen. The complex must also have had brick buildings and walls in the past. However, these are no longer visible today.
history
The rule of Diessenberg or Diessenbach was first mentioned in documents in 1218, when Hartmann IV von Kyburg inherited the property from the Zähringers . These gave the rule as a fiefdom to the knight Senn von Münsingen. In 1331 the castle was destroyed by the Bernese and no longer rebuilt. Around 1560 the von Diesbach built the old castle and in 1668 Albrecht von Wattenwyl built the new castle Oberdiessbach on the site of the old castle .
