The Engelrading estate is a former castle in the Borken district . It is located in the Marbeck district of Borken and was first mentioned in 1316 as the castle of the knight Goswin von Gemen .
In the 14th century the castle was besieged and destroyed by Bishop Heidenreich von Münster .
Arnold von Heiden sold the estate in 1638 to Alexander von Velen zu Raesfeld and his cousin, Baron Dietrich von Velen zu Velen .
In 1698 it was sold to Christoph Alexander von Velen for 24,000 Reichstaler .
The main house of the estate dates from around 1707, as an inscription above the fireplace shows.
Engelrading was acquired in 1932 by the widow of the manufacturer Wilhelm Essing.
