Christoph Alexander von Velen

Christoph Alexander von Velen (born June 29, 1664 in Velen Castle ; † December 11, 1725 ) was a canon in Münster and an official of the Meppen office.

Life

Origin and family

Christoph Alexander von Velen grew up as the son of Hermann Matthias von Velen and his wife Margaretha Anna von Galen zu Assen (1644–1720) with his brother Anton Heinrich Hermann in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Velen . In 1695 he married Maria Dorothea Margaretha von Schenking zu Bevern († 1703). The son Friedrich Christian comes from the marriage . After Maria's death, on October 22nd, 1707, he married Maria Adriane Katharina von Hochkirchen zu Neuerburg († 1724, heiress of Neuerburg).

Career and work

By papal approval, Christoph Alexander received a cathedral priest in Münster in 1688 . Three years later he gave up in favor of his brother Anton Heinrich Hermann and took over the family estates. On January 19, 1692, he succeeded his father as the official rescuer of the Meppen office. Christoph Alexander was the godchild of Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen and ancestral lord.
