Hermann Matthias von Velen (born June 29, 1632 in Meppen ; † January 2, 1681 in Velen Castle ) was official dismissal in the Meppen office.

Life

Origin and family

Hermann Matthias von Velen grew up as the son of Dietrich von Velen (1591–1657, founder of Papenburg ) and his wife Katharina Sophia von Wendt zu Holtfeld (1610–1647) together with his sister Maria Alexandra (1636–1675, ∞ Baron Otto Werner Waldbott von Bassenheim ) and his brother Dietrich Anton (1643–1700, provost in Münster and canon in Minden) in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Velen . On September 11, 1663, he married Margaretha Anna von Galen zu Assen (1644–1720) in the Velen Castle Chapel. The marriage had ten children, including Margaretha Theodora Agnes , Christoph Alexander and Anton Heinrich Hermann .

Career and work

In 1640 Hermann Matthias was assigned to his father in the Drostenamt and finally appointed Drosten of the Meppen Office on November 8, 1657. In the same year he took over the family estates. He was the tribe. After his death, his son Christoph Alexander was appointed Drosten on January 19, 1692. He was the fifth generation to run the Drosten business, thereby preserving the family tradition.
