Gleichenstein Castle

The castle Gleichenstein is an Outbound hilltop castle on the "Jacob Stein" an upstream plateau of Gleichenstein near the village Oberschöna in mittelsachsen in Saxony .

According to the authors Lauterbach and Wagner, excavations by the State Museum of Prehistory in Dresden in 1976 uncovered a nine meter wide and four meter deep trench. The finds discovered in the process indicate a half-timbered building that must have existed until the 14th century. However, it was not possible to conclusively clarify whether it was a Vorwerk or an independent castle.

Say about Gleichenstein Castle

According to legend, the castle fell into disrepair after the return of the knight of Gleichenstein from a crusade. He met his wife with a new man, whereupon a fight broke out, in the course of which the castle collapsed in the turmoil. The treasures buried in the process are said to still rest under the castle today, protected by a golden lion, only to be lifted by a Sunday child at the summer solstice.

The equal stone

The Gleichenstein is a 373.3 meter high mountain between Wingendorf and Bräunsdorf in the valley of the Große Striegis in the district of Central Saxony . Geologically it is made up of gneiss and is now completely forested.
