The castle Heine castle , just Heine castle called, is an Outbound hilltop castle in the village of Fischbeck the community Hessisch Oldendorf in the Hamelin-Pyrmont district in Lower Saxony .
description
The remains of the fortifications lie on the hill of the Heineberg , which is a mountain spur on the edge of the Upper Weser Valley . The facility was protected on two sides by steep slopes that took advantage of the natural terrain. The other sides were protected by digging trenches and adding berms and walls. The 10 meter wide wall was about 3 meters high; the 2 meter deep trench was 6 to 10 meters wide.
Investigations
The prehistorian Carl Schuchhardt made a plan of the complex in 1909 and described it in the atlas of prehistoric fortifications in Lower Saxony. Archaeological excavations in 1939, 1950, 1954 and 1957 revealed that the wall had a double wall made of hewn limestone. There were no other finds, apart from ceramic shards from the 10th and 11th centuries. Evidence of development inside the facility could not be found either. There are no historical records of the fortifications. Nothing is known about a connection to the Fischbeck Abbey, founded in 955, but this is to be assumed. Compared to other fortifications in the vicinity, there is a presumption that it could have been a smaller aristocratic residence. A refuge for the population in times of war is also possible.
Today you can find ramparts and moats as well as stone remains on the castle stables . The earlier excavation cuts are still clearly visible. The area is a soil monument and is located in the Heineberg nature reserve .
