Himlštejn Castle

Himlštejn , also Nebesa, Nebeská skála (German Himmelstein , also Old Castle ) is the name of the ruin of a Gothic castle near Stráž nad Ohří ( Warta an der Eger ) in the Ore Mountains in the Czech Republic . It is located on the summit of a rugged basalt cone on the southern slope of the Ore Mountains. Only a few remains of the once stately castle complex have survived.

history

Himmelstein Castle was first mentioned in 1434 when a "Wilhelm Ilburg uf Hymmelstein" was mentioned. In 1437 the owner was Heinrich von Weiden. However, since he was one of the opponents of George of Podebrady , he lost the royal fief. In 1497 Ulrich Sathaner held Himmelstein as a hereditary fief. Ulrich Sathan's descendants sold Himmelstein to the Schlicken family in 1528. Himmelstein Castle fell into disrepair, as the Schlick counts also acquired the neighboring rule Hauenstein and made it the center of the two dominions. In 1547 Himmelstein Castle was described as desolate.

Paths to the castle
