Viktor Karell

Viktor Karell (born March 17, 1898 in Duppau , Bohemia , † December 14, 1979 in Landau an der Isar ) was a German teacher , local researcher and writer .

Life

Karell attended elementary school and high school in his north-west Bohemian hometown of Duppau. Then he joined the Austro-Hungarian army . As a member of the Austro-Hungarian Infantry Regiment "Friedrich Großherzog von Baden" No. 50 and the Austro-Hungarian Bohemian Infantry Regiment "Potiorek" No. 102 , he was in the Balkans and Italy , most recently as a lieutenant . After the end of the war he studied German, history and geography at the University of Vienna until his doctorate in 1921 .

He then returned to Duppau, where he taught at the crafters' advanced training school until his subsequent position at the commercial academy in Melnik . For this purpose, he had to have his titles acquired in Vienna recognized in Czechoslovakia and take additional exams. In 1927 he married Anna Zebisch from Zettlitz . After further examinations in the subject of economic geography , which he took in Prague , he taught from 1930 at the Karlovy Vary Commercial Academy as a professor.

In the course of the Second World War he was called up for military service again in 1942 and towards the end of the rank of captain he was taken prisoner in Italy . After his release in 1946, he settled with his family in Landshut , who had been found there , and pursued various activities to secure a livelihood.

Middle school conception and school management in Landau ad Isar

In 1949 he received the order from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture to set up a three-tier middle school as a school trial for the Free State of Bavaria in the Catholic youth home in Landau ad Isar. With the help of a special purpose association founded for this purpose on September 2, 1949 with originally a boys 'and a girls' class, he headed the first Bavarian middle school ( Realschule ) after the end of the war as founding director until his retirement in 1963. On September 1, 1950, the first 20 state-wide in Bavaria Middle schools opened according to the Landau concept. From 1950, classes took place in a wing of the old hospital on the city moat. In 1952, the Landau an der Isar district took over and built a new school building on the left bank of the Isar for twelve classes, which was moved into in 1956 and later expanded several times. During Karell's tenure, the school had four levels in the 1958/59 school year. The Landau Middle School was named after Karell in 1983. One of the high school graduates was Uschi Glas .

After the death of his wife, Karell married his former colleague Lucie geb. Hicke .

Scientific work

As early as 1938, Karell also worked as a city ​​archivist and museum director in Karlsbad . Karell later became involved in the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft for the Duppau area and worked as an archivist for the home district of Kaaden-Duppau in the Duppau twin town of Weißenburg in Bavaria .

Karell dealt with the history, art and literature of his old and new homeland in numerous publications, including 40 larger works and series of articles. The focus here was on legends , folklore , castles , local history and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .
