Sedlec (German: Zettlitz ) is a district of the city of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic with 560 inhabitants (2011).

Geographical location

Sedlec is located on a hill on the northern outskirts of Karlovy Vary and is surrounded by dozens of ponds and swamps, some of which are the result of coal and kaolin mining.

history

Sedlec is of Slavic origin and is mentioned for the first time in connection with the establishment of the diocese of Prague in 973. Since the 10th century there was a castle of the Sedlitschanen . It was probably on the site of today's castle. Since 980 the village was the seat of an archdeacon and the center of a provincia Sedlensis of the Přemyslids until 1226 . Since the 13th century, Zettlitz and the little country of the same name were under the rule of Elbogen .

In 1290 a new stone church was built. From 1571 to 1624 it was provided with a Lutheran clergyman. Zettlitz and the surrounding communities were still Protestant in 1630. In the 17th / 18th Century was the miraculous image, the statue of St. Anna herself an important pilgrimage destination. Under the church patron, Margrave Ludwig Georg von Baden-Baden , the pilgrimage church was rebuilt from 1738 to 1749.

In 1847 the village had 25 houses with 154 inhabitants, 1 parish church, 1 school and 2 inns. Until the abolition of patrimonial rule in 1848/49, Zettlitz belonged to the Dominium Tüppelsgrün and was then assigned to the judicial district of Karlsbad. After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and belonged to the Karlsbad district until 1945 . Due to the Beneš decrees , the German residents were expelled after 1945 .
