Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016 (abbreviation: MESC 2016) was the Maltese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 , which took place in Stockholm ( Sweden ) after Måns Zelmerlöw won the Eurovision Song Contest last year with the song Heroes . Ira Losco won the competition with Chameleon (Invincible) .
Announcement & principle
On September 3, 2015, the Maltese broadcaster PBS confirmed Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. It was also announced that a preliminary decision would be held in January 2016.
On December 3, 2015, a list of the 49 preliminary participants was published. A jury will select 20 of these participants to compete in the semi-finals on January 22nd, 2016. Of the 20 participants, 14 will reach the final, which will take place on January 23, 2016 in the Mediterrenean Conference Center in Valletta .
Attendees
Among the 49 participants in the preliminary round there are new artists and artists who have already participated in the show in the past. These include, for example, Jessika , who applied with three songs, Christabelle Borg , Daniel Testa and Lyndsay Pace . Ira Losco , who represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 , also takes part.
Semifinals
On December 11, 2015, the 20 acts for the semi-finals were announced. Ira Losco is the only interpreter with two songs.
